Learn more about Aruba’s Indigenous heritage art: ceramics. You will learn to create ceramic tableware such as cups and plates.
The oldest roots of Aruban art and cultural heritage originate with the Indigenous peoples of the island. With this project, we aim to bring this heritage back into the spotlight and allow it to shine within our modern community. Participants will learn how to work with ceramic molds to create items such as cups, plates and magnets.
These pieces can be used by other participants from different projects/ organizations. They will then have the opportunity to glaze and decorate these pieces later.
This way we take a meaningful step back into the past, learn about Aruban culture while reconnecting and giving it back to the community by creating the base of a product.
The project encourages creativity, cultural awareness, and social inclusion, and gives participants a memorable experience.
Did you ever make a ceramic cup?
The cups you create will be used to support other Aruban foundations, and you will not be taking anything home.
In addition, we kindly ask each participant to donate $20 to support arts and cultural education on Aruba. This project is specially developed for tourists who would like to discover the heritage and beauty of the island while contributing to our community.
Local residents are warmly invited to join our regular ceramics course on Monday evenings. Please visit the website of the Design Academy Aruba for more information.
