Summary

Would you like to design simple walking routes that turn into fun community clean-up hikes for volunteers?

Detailed description

Aruba Volunteers is launching a new clean-up concept: short neighborhood walking routes that become organized litter-pickup hikes with community vibes.

We’re looking for volunteers to help us map and set up 5+ routes per neighborhood that all end at one central gathering point (where trash can be collected and people can hang out afterward).

What the routes should look like

  • A normal walk time of 20–30 minutes
  • When walking while picking up trash (with a bag + grabber/clippers): about 60–90 minutes
  • Routes must pass through areas with visible litter / zwerfafval hotspots
  • Each route should be suitable for groups of around 10 people or more
  • All routes should finish at the same central location where trash can be piled together for pick-up

How the clean-up events will run:

  • A guide leads each group on the route
  • Volunteers pick up litter along the way
  • A truck comes by for trash drop-off, plus water (and a music vibe)
  • Everyone ends together at the final meet-up point for a social moment (drink/snack)

Your volunteer role (Route Planner / Organizer Support)

You will help with things like:

  • Selecting a neighborhood and identifying litter-heavy streets
  • Planning and testing routes (walking them once to verify timing & safety)
  • Marking start points, directions, and the shared end location
  • Suggesting good meet-up spots for the final gathering
  • Helping Aruba Volunteers make the routes reusable for future events (monthly)

Why it matters

If we create reusable routes, this project can run every month, cleaning a little more of the island each time, until we have cleaner neighborhoods for everyone. Route can repeat every year or when necessary.

What we will provide to volunteers

💸 Reimbursement of costs

🤝 Extra support
